Wherever you are in life, I'm here to help.

Liz Gustafson, PhD

I am a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY29510) with nearly ten years of experience in helping people who are struggling with their emotions, including those stemming from traumatic pasts and toxic relationships.

Before opening my practice, I spent two years taking calls and training operators at a suicide hotline. I went on to work with children in foster care, 9/11 first responders in NYC, people on a psychiatric inpatient unit, and individuals in many walks of life doing their best to manage emotional pain. I have worked in some of the top hospitals in NYC and LA, including New York Presbyterian/Weill-Cornell, Mount Sinai, and Kaiser Permanente. You can see my full CV here.

My work is informed by psychological theory regarding the unconscious, the impact of childhood experiences on adulthood relationship patterns, emotion regulation, self-control, and neurobiology.

People of all sexualities, gender identities, races, sizes, and relationship structures are welcome in my practice.

I have experience helping with:

  • PTSD

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • identity confusion

  • Grief

  • Relationship problems

  • Emotional numbness

  • Anger

  • Dissociation

  • Eating disorders

  • Self-harm

  • Suicidal thoughts
